The Neurodivergent Musician

Originally from Alexandria, Virginia, Elizabeth Wolfrey is a multi-instrumentalist and teacher currently living in Merced, California. Dr. Wolfrey teaches private lessons in flute and piano, is on the music faculty at Merced College, and regularly gigs in and around the Central Valley.

A versatile musician, Elizabeth earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in flute performance and Master of Music in Music Theory from the University of Oklahoma. She specializes in music by underrepresented composers and music theory. As a portfolio musician, Elizabeth has extensive experience performing professionally and teaching. This experience led her to the creation of her blog, The Neurodivergent Musician, a source for practice tips and strategies catered to neurodiverse individuals.

Elizabeth has presented masterclasses and led workshops in California, Oklahoma, Kansas, Virginia, and Tennessee.  And has performed in masterclasses for Sir James Galway, Jim Walker, Robert Dick, members of Eighth Blackbird, and others.

Her flute teachers include Dr. Valerie Watts, Dr. Shelley Binder, and Bokyung Kim.

Elizabeth studied piano at the University of Oklahoma with Dr. John Patrick Murphy, Dr. Hayden Coie, and Emily Barr.

Elizabeth plays on a Burkart Elite Flute and Burkart Elite Piccolo.

Dr. Wolfrey is available for performances on flute, piccolo, saxophone, clarinet, and piano.
