It's Summer! Now what?

Raise your hand if you've already made your list of 'Summer Goals and Plans'! Keep reading to find out my top 3 summer recommendations!

If you're anything like me, you have a nice little list going of all the things you want to work on this summer now that you ~finally~ have time to work on things not school related.

I love using the summer as a time to reinvest (maybe even reinvent) in myself and all of the parts of me: me a human, me as a musician, me as an academic, you get the gist.

My students ask me all the time what they should do over the summer to make the most of the time off from school and my answers may surprise you...

Here are my top 3:

  1. REST. And I'm talking about real rest! Put the instrument away for 2 weeks and see what you learn about yourself in those two weeks. You'll be amazed at house refreshed and inspired you feel when you come back to the instrument. Plus, it's important to give your body and mind adequate rest so you can stay in your best shape.

  2. Send your flute in for it's annual C.O.A. Obviously you have to plan ahead for this because scheduling a COA can sometimes seem like searching for a Wonka Golden Ticket. But if you're lucky, you can time your two week break with your scheduled COA.

  3. Learn a new hobby. I love the flute and playing the flute and teaching the flute, but I am more than just a flutist! Summer is the perfect time to try new things and develop new skills.
